Senior (16 years and over) Netball

Welcome to Netball with Greenwich Sports Club (GSC)!

If you are turning 16 yrs old or older in the current calendar year you will be playing in the ‘Senior’ division of netball.

GSC has four Senior Teams currently, but may form a fifth team if numbers allow.

When and where are the games played?

  • 16+ (Senior): On Saturday afternoons between 1pm and 5pm

Please be aware that the NSNA regraded certain teams mid-season last year - if the regrading policy is applied again this year, this could lead to a change to the time slot in which your team plays in round 8.

Netball games are played at the courts located at Small Street, Willoughby just outside the Willoughby Leisure Park Centre.

Games are not generally scheduled in the school holidays.

Uniform

  • Senior players are required to purchase their own shirt from the Club.
  • Plain black skort.
  • Non court marking sandshoes and white ankle socks.
  • No jewellery to be worm and nails must be cut.

How many players are in a team?

A team must have at least 8 and no more than 12 players in order to register. Eight or nine players is an ideal number to allow a good amount of game time while allowing for unavoidable absences.

How is the team organised or selected?

After registrations have been received, the Netball Convener will coordinate any necessary team or grading and you will be advised via email of your allocated team.

The actual makeup of the teams cannot be finalised until registration with the Club is completed. As Greenwich Sports Club only fields a small number of netball teams, we have to be flexible as to how the teams are formed. Every effort will be made to give everyone registered a chance to play. If after all attempts have been made to field a team and it has not been made possible, we shall let you know promptly.

Many teams have a limit on player numbers and sometimes there will be more players than places available. In these circumstances, players will be allocated to a team based on the criteria set forth in GSC’s Player Selection and Grading.

The conduct of all grading and team selection is at the discretion of the Netball Convener and any reviews or disputes arising out of team grading and selection will be referred back to the Netball Convener for final determination.

Training and Coaching

Each team will be required to source their own umpire, manager and coach. The success of your team will depend on your ability to fill these roles. For insurance purposes, the team cannot be registered without these roles being allocated.

Training for the Senior teams is usually held at the courts at Willoughby Leisure Centre, Small Street, Willoughby. Training times will be confirmed -once teams have been allocated.

The coach, manager and umpire can be a team member or friend. The NSNA website lists some handy training tips and typically runs training courses prior to the season start.

Duty Roster

During the season NSNA compiles a duty roster. GSC may be asked to provide volunteers one Saturday during the season to fulfill what is known as the “Duty Roster”. This may mean staffing the canteen, handing out score sheets and/or tiding up after the final match of the day. More information will be sent to you at the relevant time.

Volunteers

The Club is proud of the many people who volunteer to support our players in roles such as Manager, Coach, Umpire, and other support functions.

At the team level, we encourage you to note on your registration if you are interested in being a Coach, Manager or Referee. For Club level volunteer opportunities, please click here.

Key dates and important information notifications

Round 1 Competition is usually scheduled to commence the first Friday/Saturday of April.

The Club maintains a Calendar with important dates but the NSNA website is the definitive one, particularly for up-to-date wet weather notification and fixtures.

Team manager’s will also generally email relevant team information on a weekly basis.
